ARTIST STATEMENT
My work compiles mental images transformed into pictorial suggestions. This sensed construction becomes a practice, depicting psychological symbols as well as warped, blurred, overlapped images deforming our perception of space.
Monochrome by means of layers, exposes images formed on a white surface. These constructions are then distorted, split up, unidentified, and distorting the limits of space. Embedded, vague forms represent the clash between the experienced inner and outer worlds, through time. Forms in the works are generated by exploring a new space and folding it with the previous ones. This new figure offers the opportunity to analyze them together, and provide daily movement within the flow of the variable world.

Dilara Özüçelik’s works focus on spatial perception and experience. She transforms her mental images into pictorial suggestions. This sensed construction becomes a practice turning into a psychical symbol depiction as well as warped, blurred, overlapped images deformating perceptual space. Özüçelik’s images reveal from her daily life experience and some authors, such as Camus, Derrida, Merleau-Ponty, W. Benjamin, Kafka, Borges, Murakami, Sebald, Lefebvre, Stavrides, Marc Auge, L.Floridi, Covery and some others. This spatial experience is related to the issue of alienation, which deepens, especially during current pandemic period. That’s why it’s possible to read in her works a new understanding of space and time which is de-identified and connected with something volatile and abstract.
Özüçelik participated in several group exhibitions and contests such as Trumbauer Family Collection (2017), Bazaart (2018), Akbank Contemporary Artists Prize Exhibition (2019), İstanbul Rotary (2019), Base (2019).
The artist is making research on spatial abstraction. Özüçelik lives and works in İzmir.
